RYSE Street Outreach Lead Lee Miyashiro is famous. Well, outreach-famous. Besides having lived homeless experience on Oahu, Lee has been out at the beach parks, camps, and other areas of the island engaging and supporting our opportunity youth since before RYSE began. Here, he discusses the challenges and successes of conducting outreach, as well as the systemic causes of living unsheltered. “One hundred percent of the kids I encounter on Outreach have experienced some sort of severe trauma,” Lee said.
