Two Hawaii organizations are finalists in national challenge

“Two Hawaii organizations have the chance to win $100,000 in funding as part of a national challenge.

Startup accelerator FoundHer and nonprofit Residential Youth Services and Empowerment, or RYSE, are both finalists in the 2022 Gold Futures Challenge. The annual challenge, a joint effort by social equity ventures Asian American Futures and Gold House, awards funding to Asian American and Pacific Islander organizations for projects that positively impact the community.”

A place to land can change everything. For youth experiencing housing insecurity in Waianae or transitioning out of the foster system, that place is taking shape through RYSE (Residential Youth Services & Empowerment).

Sidney Bandy is a social worker serving the houseless community in Hawai’i. Sidney has spent most of her life on O’ahu, learning from the culturally rich and overwhelmingly diverse populations who call the islands home.

Sidney attended the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, where she received a master’s in social work. While completing her education, Sidney worked with survivors of domestic violence; houseless adults being released from incarceration who are diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illnesses.
