Holiday Cheer At RYSE!

We love celebrating holidays at RYSE! Check out some photo highlights of our holiday season: We were able to gift each resident with a backpack filled with daily essentials and a gift card (126 backpacks total!) plus each youth had a gift to unwrap on Christmas morning. RYSE youth were also served a delicious Christmas breakfast including eggs, fried rice, French toast, Portuguese sausage and bacon! Our community friends and partners across the island, including faith-based groups, LGBTQ groups, the Hoea Foundation, Hawaii Job Corps, Fund A Future, Junior League of Honolulu, and many other groups helped to provide all the gifts. We held an Employee Door Decorating Contest, having RYSE youth and staff collaborate to make creative and festive designs. This year’s winners were Team Education & Employment, who earned a much-needed extra day of PTO! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

A Place to Belong, A Future to Build

A place to land can change everything. For youth experiencing housing insecurity in Waianae or transitioning out of the foster system, that place is taking shape through RYSE (Residential Youth Services & Empowerment).

On The Run And Undercounted, Homeless Youth Try Hard To Stay Out of Sight

By official counts, just a handful of homeless teens live on the streets of Hawaiʻi. Those who try to help them suggest that’s all wrong, that there are many more — perhaps 150 doing their best not to be counted.

They hide in tents at beach parks. On a friend or stranger’s couch. Far back in the valleys that stretch out of towns.
